Particularly one that will have the reader choosing a side, or team rather. I sat down and had a little Q &A with Venessa Kimball about the two men that Jesca will inevitably need to choose between in this series.
Thank you for stopping by Venessa!
My pleasure. Thank you so much for having me and hosting this stop of the PtF Blog Tour!
Of course! Okay, so let’s get down to the nitty gritty girl. Jesca has an attraction to two guys in this series, Nate Sera and Xander Crest. Let’s start with Nate. Tell us about Nate’s and Jesca’s attraction in Piercing the Fold: Book 1.
Nate and Jesca meet at “the facility”. Jesca instantly has a physical attraction to Nate. And, Nate seems to as well. Nate is level headed, confident, and playful. He is also very sincere when it comes to his budding friendship with Jesca. A friendship begins at this point, but the intense attraction between them persists. As the training in the facility is underway, they discover a shared link between them that can amplify their metaphysical defenses when they are together. This is where the intense attraction they share and the link between them create some tension.
Romantic tension I take it?
Yes and a tension on the partnership the link holds between them.
Okay, in comes Xander Crest. He seems to be a little bit of a bad boy.
He is just misunderstood. Okay, a little bit of a bad boy in the sense that he follows his own rules; makes them up as he goes. He has had to because of the direction his life took after his parents’ death at a young age.
When Xander and Jesca meet for the first time in Miami at the bookstore, he definitely exudes a confident bad boy aura. Yes, he does, at first. But, then you see that melt away and become the real Xander that only Jesca brings out.
I don’t want to give too much away by delving deeper into the relationships Jesca has with these two. But, I do want to ask why you chose to have a love triangle element in this series?
Ahh, yes. The love triangle element. I find it to be more of a love struggle. Love takes so many shapes and forms. It isn’t always the stereotypical “two boy and one girl” love triangle. And, in this series that sentiment holds true. Nate and Jesca and Xander and Jesca are not the only love struggle going on in this story. I won’t say any more, because Surfacing the Rim: Book 2 reveals my meaning. This is so much more than I had anticipated when outlining the series.
Ugh! Really, we have to wait! That is sooooooooo cruel!
The wait will be over soon. March 14, 2013 Surfacing the Rim: Book 2 releases!
One last question. These two young men, Nate and Xander, have already started the “team” buzz! So, whose team are you on?
Being the creator and writer of these two young men, I cannot let myself choose. I don’t want it to affect Jesca’s choice in the end.
So, do you already have it outlined who Jesca chooses in the end?
I have everything BUT that outlined. I want to leave that element of surprise open for myself. Being able to watch the choice this strong main character will make unfold as I write it fuels the passion that I have for this craft.
Well said Venessa. And, we absolutely love the passion you have for your craft! Thank you so much for stopping by!
